The Office goes Back to the Future

While none of us have a crystal ball we’re pretty fond of trying to look ahead to what the future might hold for us. As far as organisations are concerned a competitive edge only comes with predicting what’s just around the corner. I’m pretty scathing when it comes to business buzzwords, but I actually quite like the term ‘Horizon Gazing’. I think it evokes an ethereal quality, staring out at the setting sun. This is Getting Old

Concerns about age used to be centred on living long enough to be able to provide for our families and see our children grow up. Now that it seems those wishes for longevity have come true (in the most part for those living in the developed World) concerns are regarding quality of life, and perhaps more specifically whether our bodies and/or minds will last long enough to not be a burden on our families in our old age. The Magic Screen

I own an original 1960’s Etch a Sketch that was my mother’s as a child. There’s no particular reason I’ve kept it – you can hardly draw on it any more – other than nostalgia and sentiment. In fact I’d completely forgotten about it until last night, when my two year brought it to me and asked me to put Peppa Pig on it. I found it pretty impossible to explain such a toy in the context of our modern technology without unwittingly making it sound like an incredibly boring and pointless object.
